Logitech Performance Mouse MX

2010Rated PerformanceMXMouse M
Surely one of the finest control devices currently available

It’s funny how much and how little changes in one year - Apple now has the multi-touch ’Magic Mouse’ and ’Magic Trackpad’, and Microsoft has its own version - the ’Arc Touch Mouse’. What with all the talk of multi-touch touchscreens and iPads and tablets, you might be led to thinking that the humble scroll-wheel mouse’s days were numbered - but no! Microsoft conducted a large study  on computer input earlier this year - and found that keyboard and convetional mouse were still the fastest and most accurate input devices.

I have a pretty great trackpad on my laptop, and am used to working on our Mac Powerbook laptop also - you just don’t get the same traction and accuracy from a trackpad.

I conduct on-site training from home occasionally, and those that use my MX Mouse are seriously impressed by its pinpoint accuracy, speed and expressiveness. With lazer and friction control, you get much more consistent and accurate responses. Using a touch screen device - not every sweep and gesture is properly recognised; but this never happens with a conventional mouse.

The MX Mouse utilises a special ’Darkfield’ lazer beam - which allows it to work on pretty much any surface, including glass. Add to that programmable functions, and buttons and controls for horizontal, as well as hyper-fast vertical scrolling, the usual forward/back buttons, Zoom and Application Switcher and you have many more functions under your control than with a multi-touch-pad equivalent.

The mouse recharges via USB, and takes a full-sized format. It’s possibly a little large for a travel mouse, but I take it with me everywhere. I have used a lot of input devices for a great many years, and this one is definitely the best yet - the most effortlessly fluid and responsive control device I have owned - the fact that it’s wireless and USB chargeable makes it an even better proposition - highly recommended.
