We’ve been talking about it for a while, but here it finally is - the ability to select an ’Accent Colour’ for the Affino MP3 and Video Players. This single setting - to be found on the Media Library Profile, means that you are no longer limited to the turquoise colour of the previous universal players. There has always been an ability to swap out the ’Affino’ logo on the MP3 player, but few have felt the need to oust it thus far - it is after all a stamp of high innovation and quality!
We are very keen on maintaining the Commercial and Media analogy we have, equating a site’s retail areas with a brightly lit shopping malls, whilst a cinema or media experience needs the lights dimmed for added mood and atmosphere. This is why we are not proposing to change the essentail design of the players, we’re very happy with the dark grey-scale / touching-on-black - look and feel for both players. You just need to compare the players on BBC and ITV (both on black) with Channel 4 and YouTube (both on white) to see which affords the best viewing environment. Any Hexachrome colour value can be input, such as our lime green, pictured above. The latest version of the Media Players can be seen throughout this site’s Community Media Channel and Sub-Channels, as well as on X-treme Video. There’s a number of new Media-centric sites due for launch soon, it will be interesting to see what colours they go for.
Here follows what the Colour Accent setting affects on each player:
MP3 Player
- Rating Stars
- EQ Levels Meter
- Playback tracker bar
- Play, Pause, Forward and Back Buttons
- Selected / Playing track highlight
Video Player
- Rating Stars
- Volume Level

Futher Notes
As mentioned, tones of grey are used throughout both players, with text in light grey and titles and certain selections appearing in white; these elements will remain as they are. Only the indicated elements will change colour to tone with site colours; we feel that we have achieved just the right balance between flexibility, functionality and usablity - enjoy!
